The Mighty Mo

Right in our backyard is probably one of the most important places in US history – Pearl Harbor.  Today we were lucky they offered free admission to the USS Missouri (a.k.a. Mighty Mo) to military and kama’aina.  We’ve been to the Pearl Harbor many time but we never had the opportunity to visit the Mighty Mo.  No matter how many times we visit this place, there is aways something special to see.

Visiting the Arizona Memorial is a must for everyone.  The best time to go is first thing in the morning.  Lots of parking and short lines.

My kids were totally psyched to check out a battleship to the point where they dressed up in camouflage – my youngest was covered from head to toe (sort of).  We spent most of the day on the Mighty Mo, and it was worth the visit.  We spent about two hours on the ship.

They had all kinds of activities on the ship.  They had a passport scavenger hunt, games (they had the actual Battleship game set up), and live music…ON the ship!  It was really cool.  There was just so much to see and in some places, touch.

Needless to say, the boys brought out ALL their military toys – army men, planes, and….sharks (well, almost all-military) when we got home.  It was a great day to see something new and something that reminded us freedom shouldn’t be taken for granted.
